O-H's Townhouse to shut its doors

There are many things that people love about O-H's Townhouse: The steaks, of course, which you can select from an illuminated cooler. The family atmosphere. And the 40-plus years worth of memories accumulated in the cushy booths and red-neon glow of this Eureka institution -- from anniversaries and marriage proposals to birthday parties and soldiers' homecomings.

But if there's one thing about O-H's that people value above all else, it's that the place never seems to change. Until now.

This Friday, the venerable restaurant will serve its last meal before shutting its doors.

The Times-Standard recently sat down with Eureka Mayor Virginia Bass in one of the restaurant's U-shaped padded booths to discuss the end of an era that began when her father, O-H, opened the steakhouse in 1956.
