Marine life in peril
There are effects on thyroid and sex hormones from PBDEs. That's more or less what we know about them," said Wilfried Karmaus, a University of South Carolina epidemiology professor who studied the compounds in Michigan. "PBDEs are banned in Europe but not in the United States. The problem is, we do not have any human data about these substances in South Carolina." Studying the contaminants gets very complex very quickly because there's a mix of them in the body, said Pat Fair, Living Marine Resources Branch Chief at the NOAA lab, one of the researchers. "But (research) is more important because there's a mixture. We all have a combination of contaminants that we're exposed to and are carrying around with us. They each have their own toxicity; but in combination, the toxicities may be enhanced.
Cram Session: Bumps, bruises and rumors
We don't expect him to miss another game for a while (knock on wood). Charlotte Bobcats -- Emeka Okafor is starting to pick up his play of late and seems to be regaining some of the Fantasy appeal he lost when Nazr Mohammed joined the team. He's averaging 17.8 ppg and 11.6 rpg over his last five games with double-doubles in four straight contests going into the week. He's also averaging 2.0 bpg in that span. Meanwhile, Mohammed has come back down to earth, averaging just 8.4 ppg and 6.0 rpg over those five games. He's still useful as a low-end No. 2 Fantasy center, though. Chicago Bulls -- The Bulls are as banged up as they've been all season, with injuries to Luol Deng (Achilles'), Ben Gordon (wrist), Chris Duhon (knee) and Joe Smith (knee). Deng is out for 1-3 weeks, Gordon is day-to-day, Duhon is "shutting it down" for a few games and Smith is able to play but he had fluid drained from his right knee for the third time this season, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Giants' battle for second could last entire spring
It's going to be interesting in spring training," said 11-time Gold Glove shortstop Omar Vizquel, who arrived Sunday, one day ahead of schedule. "We've got a lot of work to do this spring to establish our infield going into the season. There are a lot of questions about who's going to be at third, who's going to be at second and probably who's going to be at short." The 40-year-old Vizquel was joking about his own position on the field, considering he signed a $5.3 million, one-year contract in November with a club option for 2009. Vizquel's friendly, familiar face and reliable glove and leaping, athletic defense provides the most stability in this infield. With an adopted 8-month-old girl named Caylee now at home, he spent little time sleeping this winter and will be eager to hit the field as is always the case.
UPDATE 1-Motorola eyes mobile chief with consumer know-how
Facing a plummeting share and pressure from activist investor Carl Icahn, Motorola said at the end of January it was looking at options such as a potential separation of mobile devices to help create value for shareholders. Brown said he was taking nothing for granted when asked about how Motorola will cope with moves by rivals such as global leader Nokia to make inroads into the North American market where Motorola is the leader. "I expect (competition) to be particularly rugged for the remainder of 2008 and into 2009," he said during the Webcast. Continued... .
What makes an award-winning hotel?
Bekhit who is regional vice president of the Four Seasons and has been the general manager of the Four Seasons Istanbul enjoys relating incidents like this involving his staff. He has often only found out about them later. Asked in an interview with the Turkish Daily News what he believed makes a hotel successful, Bekhit replied, so far we've been blessed with great employees because our selection is very important. Human resources has an incredible role to play in selecting the right sources. Human resources collects the people and then they go through at least four interviews. So when we accept someone as an employee, we feel that he or she will be successful within the family. 99 percent will stay with us and we are sure that he or she will do what we tell them to. That's when you start from the beginning.
Three Britons to be released from Guantanamo Bay
With all that is going on in the War on Terror; at Guantanamo, the Americans would rather release these “innocent" people, if they could be proven non-combatants'. If they say they are a threat to Society at large why should I disbelieve them? Because Big, Bad America (Bush) or it's faithful poodle say's they're wrong un's they must be innocent?? - seems to be the doubter, anti-war and quislings response, over and over again. If locking up 500 of them stops wholesale slaughter, No worries – five of em could be innocent?? So what?! That won't bring about the end of Western society. If it stops them wanting to live here then it would be an added bonus. Just because these Terrorists have domiciled in the UK At some point of their existence shouldn't mean we have to bleat for them and beg to have them released to seek refuge in this country.
